Riviera Hotel and Casino; slot machines ticketless or quarters?

I will be going to Vegas in 2 days and I was just wondering how the slots work. I heard you no longer put quarters in, its something like a ticket or piece of paper???

We are staying @ Riviera just to save money but I am curious as to how the slots work at other casinos as well.

So whatever info you can contribute will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Riv like all others on the Strip is ticket you can put in bills but not change and you get paid a ticket with a bar code that can also be put into machines or cashed in.
    have a good trip

The Rivera was the first casino in Vegas to give out pay tickets instead of money believe it or not. The machines will take bills of any denomination but no coins anymore. When you push the “cash out” button it prints a ticket which you can put in another machine and continue to play or you can put it in a cash ticket machine and it will dispense your winnings in cash. You can also take it to a cashier to get the cash. This is the way it is at all casinos now here in Vegas. You may find one or two old style coin machines in the older small casinos.

When playing the slots, when you’re ready to cash out, it’s a good idea to play it down to the dollar and get rid of cents so you don’t have all the extra coins to carry around. One of the guys in our group didn’t clue into this fact and was whining later about how tired he was and his back was hurting. When he got back to the hotel that night we found out why – he had over $18.00 in coins in his pocket weighing him down!

All of the major strip casinos use slot machines that only accept bills. You are paid out in a ticket that can either be inserted into another machine or can be cashed out.

I think some of the older and smaller casinos, which are off the strip, may still accept coins. But most don’t.

The last time I was there most of the machines were voucher operated. That’s a pretty good casino to play at because they still have a lot of the older video slots. The buffet isn’t bad either. Pretty decent BBQ!

Mostly you have to go downtown to find machines that still accept quarters, and they are only a select few machines in some casinos to not irritate the hard core traditionalists.

From the point of the casino, the cost of trucking all those tons of quarters around plus the repairs of the machines is prohibitive. They prefer that you put bills into the machines, and get a ticket which you can put in an ATM style machine. It reduces their casino costs considerably.

Plus as a bonus people lose the tickets. Nobody loses the quarters or at least someone else will pick them up.

Almost all machines mimic the sound of quarters dropping into a bin when you cash out.
